The location is about 7 miles west of the dam site, at the summit and near the terminus of the Union Pacific section of the branch railroad. How large is Boulder City? Water is pumped from the Colorado River to the town, a distance of nearly 7 miles, with a total lift of about 2,000 feet. The intake is about 3,500 feet downstream from the dam site on the Nevada side. The water first goes to a presedimentation basin 100 feet above river level, then to a 100,000-gallon receiving tank at Boulder City, from there to a filtration and purification plant, and finally to a 2,000,000-gallon storage tank.
