Where is Bohemia?
The geographic area of Bohemia is basically the western half of what is today called the Czech Republic (the eastern half (approximately) was the country/province called Moravia). I am using ‘weasel words’ like “approximately” and “basically” because Bohemia’s boundaries have varied a lot over the past two thousand years or so (another ‘weasel word’). The first permanent recognizable inhabitants were Slav tribesmen (tribespersons perhaps) who settled there during the ‘hay days’ of the Roman Empire. The last country of Bohemia went away when treaties during World War I formed the country of Czechoslovakia in 1918. I’ve probably given you more than you cared to know about Bohemia. But if you have ancestors from that area, a little bit of Bohemia resides in your heart, even though you’ve never been there.
