Where is Bar Harbor?
Bar Harbor is located on the south-eastern edge of Maine about 40 miles south of Bangor, ME. The town is nestled on Mount Desert Island and shares the island with Acadia National park and several other small towns. Bar Harbor can be accessed by driving Route 1A from Bangor, ME or can also be access via ferry from Nova Scotia. Where should we stay? If you are going to visit Bar Harbor, I would highly recommend staying at the Bar Harbor Inn. My wife and I stayed at the BHI during my first visit to Bar Harbor and found the rooms and the view to be exquisite. The hotel also has a beautiful dining room and access to many activities such as sailing cruises, Puffin tours, and lobster bakes. Be prepared, however, to pay a pretty penny for the lodging and make sure you book in advance because Bar Harbor is a busy tourist destination during the peak season.
