In fact, I have bought round trip plane tickets from the west coast to the east coast for as little as $99.00. The trick is to enter different times leaving/returning that approximate the dates that you want to leave/return without being focused on the EXACT times that you want to travel. For example: leaving on a sunday might be less expensive than leaving on a friday or saturday; returning on a tuesday might be less expensive than returning on a monday. You just need to play around with some of the travel sites and compare the rates. You will be surprised at how inexpensive you can travel with just a little bit of effort.
