Where in the World is Tahiti?
Introduction: It is hard to imagine that the dots on a Pacific Region map represent islands. Tahiti is a name commonly used for the islands that belong to the Society Islands. The location of these islands in French Polynesia is important to understand the area considered in this study. Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to locate the island groups of French Polynesia using relative location. Objectives: * to use one of the 5 themes of geography, location * to understand how to read a map * to use relative location directions to make a map * to follow directions * to use critical thinking skills Materials: * map of the Pacific Ocean region * map of the French Polynesia * Puzzle pieces of a French Polynesia map (Pieces are blank on the front and clues and directions are on the back.)
