Topaz Mountain in western Utah (3 hours west of Provo) is a rhyolite mountain complete with garnet, topaz crystals, beryl, and other gemstones and minerals. If there are no dormant or extinct volcanoes in your area, your chances of finding rhyolite are slim to none.
