Where in the Torah does it say that Mothers should be overbearing and obsessed with death?
Hal: I always like to say that God couldn’t be everywhere so he created Mothers. He’s too busy so he can’t be watching us all the time so he created the mother to watch us. I think all mothers are Jewish -in a way. It’s not just connected to Jewish families, but all families. I read in Scotland, Paris, Finland -you can say there’s a Scottish Mother, Persian Mother, French Mother. Evan: Are you still a practicing Jew? Hal: Well, I’m secular. But like I pray all the time and I talk about God to people, but I don’t go to Temple. There were bad experiences when I was little. And I kind of feel that I’m in this dialogue with God – I feel like we’re talking to each other. And it’s hard to know what God likes.
