He was always a male until this dispensation, never an angel or female. 2. A priest must partake of the nature of the persons for whom he acts or represents. Heb 7:4-5, 14, 28, 10:5, 10-14 all state that a priest must be a member of the human race. Heb 5:1-6, “For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; he is able to moderate his feelings with regard to the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is subject to weakness, and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins as a substitute for the people, and so also for himself. And no one takes the honor for himself, but receives it when he is appointed by God, even as Aaron was. So also Christ did not glorify Himself

As stated many times, the Bible doesn’t specifically say to confess through a priest, but it does tell us to gather as two or more, and to confess to one another (see below). Since this is often highly private, it’s nice to have a ‘stranger’ as a prayer partner. Beyond that, I can only speak of my personal experiences. Catholicism doesn’t require confession through a priest. I’ve been to both individual confession and group confession. Group confession is done through silent prayer, not through priests. I wasn’t told I was ‘forgiven’ either. I was told to go forth in peace and attempt to no longer commit sin. During individual confession, I shared my troubles, the priest prayed with me for forgiveness from God and offered guidance and advice on how to cast away sin.
