Two things to consider. One is that Los Angeles is a very spread out city so any one place you choose will invariably put you some distance from another place you will eventually need to be. Second, is that it is generally an expensive city to live in. You will also need a car. Not having a car increases your travel times three fold. Studio lots and casting offices are all over the city from the San Fernando Valley to Burbank to Manhattan Beach. Without a car, trying to make appointments at all these places in one day would be a nightmare. One can find reasonable rents in Culver City, Hollywood, West Hollywood, neighborhoods in the San Fernando Valley and even parts of Silver Lake, Burbank and Glendale.
