Denton Jazz Festival Kicks Off Tonight By MADDIE GARRETT Updated 3:15 PM CDT, Fri, Apr 24, 2009 Hear the sounds, experience the art and taste the flavors at the 29th annual Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. The free two and half day event begins tonight at 5 p.m. at Quakertown Park, in the heart of Denton. The festival will feature six stages for musical entertainment ranging from jazz to blues and cross-cultural sounds. Some big names to hit the stages are Stanley Clark tonight at 9 pm, Arc Angels Saturday night and Brave Combo on Sunday. But the music capital of North Texas is known for more than just jazz. There will also be plenty of tasty treats offered at any one of the five food courts, from traditional corn dogs to Greek gyros. Art enthusiasts will be able to view and purchase unique pieces of art from 175 juried artists and crafters. The Denton Arts & Jazz Festival is a FREE 2 1/2 day event held in the heart of the city, beautiful Quakertown Park . Over 2,200 performers on 6 stages, fine arts and crafts, children’s art activities, food and games, and four hundred festival members volunteer their time each year for this exciting annual event on the last, full weekend in April. “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing!” For as long as anyone can remember Denton has been an incubator of talent for artists and musicians. Produced by the Denton Festival Foundation, the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival emerged from this incredible pool of both professionals and amateurs.
