Where in Australia is Hanging Rock?

Hanging Rock is the popular name for Mount Diogenes, in Victoria, Australia.

There are a number of places called “Hanging Rock” in Australia. The most famous one, featured in the book, and later film, Picnic at Hanging Rock, is in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria. Another is in Northern NSW, near the town of Nundle, not far from the city of Tamworth. Yet another in in the Blue Mountains, West of Sydney. Very spectacular, that one. And there are smaller hanging rocks to be found all over the country. They hang on chains, and tell the weather. When the rock is dry, it’s fine. When it casts a shadow, it’s sunny. When it’s wet, it’s raining. When it’s invisible, it’s foggy; and when it’s swaying from side to side it’s windy.
