Where in America can I try and buy the type of German-bore Reform-Boehm Mouthpieces that will fit Wurlitzers?
A. Here at the Cherry Valley Music Studio in Olney, MD. We are here to also help guide and advise you on your initial mouthpiece selection. With French instruments, the mouthpiece/reed/ligature/barrel combination is often more critical for sound production than the clarinet itself. With the German-bore Wurlitzer Reform-Boehm, it is the instrument that is most important. So, at the beginning, we will help you find a solid, perfectly in tune, and very musical mouthpiece that will transition you to the “less embouchure / more air” style of relaxed, natural and much more powerful playing that the Wurlitzer demands. In a short time, you will be ready to move to a mouthpiece that is more of your “individual” style — but you will need a period of adjustment to get to that point. We will be there to help you then, too.
