Lather, rinse, repeat. Tort reform interests say, “I told you so.” Folks who morph car wrecks into checks in their ads instead say, “All is well.” And people who steer the ship of state on Kanawha Boulevard try to act offended when their commitment to greatness is questioned. Whatever. Fail. As usual, if you change nothing substantial, nothing substantial will change. For years, we’ve been hung up on symbolism, or at least giving the appearance that something different is going to happen. You know the usual tactics … random tax abatements, miniature energy projects constructed mainly for the photo opportunity, tourist projects of all sorts that hemorrhage money and crowd out unsubsidized businesses.
