Where has WNS been observed?
White-nose has been documented in more than 10 states from New Hampshire to North Carolina and in Canada. The fungus Geomyces destructans has been found on hibernating bats as far west as Oklahoma. Neither the syndrome nor the fungus has been confirmed in Georgia, although DNR authorities expect white-nose will reach the state. Georgia has few known large winter hibernacula. But, 16 species of bats are found in the state, including all but one of the species affected so far by WNS (see below).
