Where Has The Great Bustard Been Reintroduced In The UK?
The Great Bustard is a large sized bird belonging to the Otidae family; the bird has a brownish upper can grow to a size of 3½ feet (about 1.1 meter) with a wingspan of almost 8 feet (2.5 m) and weigh about 14 kg (30 lb) making it one of the biggest birds that can fly. The bird in the past existed across much of Europe and Asia but today can be found only in Southern and Central Europe and parts of Asia. The Great Bustard was found in Britain as well but became extinct some time in the mid of the 19th century. The bird was reintroduced in Britain in the Salisbury Plain region owing to the wooded grasslands occurring in the region and military training areas due to which the area is sparsely populated. The area is also home to two National Nature Reserves and is well known for the large diversity of flora and fauna that occur in the region.
