Where does VIMS get its funding?
In 2008, VIMS received 47% of its $46.6 million annual operating budget from the Commonwealth of Virginia. The remaining 53% of our budget is earned through competitive grants and contracts from local, state, and federal agencies. Our largest source of federal grant dollars is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), followed by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Department of the Interior.
