Your question does make sense–and here’s he answer. First: socialism and communism are not the same thing. Technically, communism is a form of socialism in economic terms–but only technically. Socialism is a system of economic organization (NOT political) that assigns the government a large role in the system of production and distribution. That does not imply it is not democratic. Swedan and Denmark, for instance, are strong democracies with strong protections for individual rights–but have socialist economies (they also have strong market sectors as well, the two are not contradictory). Communism is both a political and an economic system. It is also exptreme by definition in both aareas. Economically, communism abolishes the market and private property entirely. Politically it abolishes democracy, excludes any competing political organization, controls the press, etc. It is technically “socialist” only because it controls ALL of the means of production and distribution.
