Where does the treated wastewater go?
A.At the completion of the treatment process, and solid materials have been removed for stabilization, the treated wastewater undergoes a final step before it can be discharged to a receiving stream. Disinfection or the process of destroying pathogens is that final step and is accomplished using ultraviolet light prior to discharge to a receiving stream. Our designated receiving stream is the Fox River. Q. What is sludge and how do we dispose of it A.Sludge or “biosolids” is the name given to those solids separated from wastewater flow received at our facility. The sludge is processed gravimetrically and biologically, breaking the solids down to their simplest, most stable compounds. The digested solids are a stable, clean final product, which resembles black dirt. Currently, the Village achieves a Class B sludge designation, as identified by the USEPA, defines the material to be sufficiently stabilized for the land application to farm fields. Per USEPA and IEPA standards, the material
