Where does the term “loveseat” come from?
The exact origin of the term loveseat is unknown. However, it is easy to see that the word consists of two concepts: love and seat. The name then probably derives from the design of the seat, which allows space for only two people to sit comfortably. Whether at a party or sitting outside on a patio, the loveseat secures an intimacy that a couch cannot. Remember that two’s company and three’s a crowd.
