Where does the roman goddess diana spend her time in myths, and what is she famous for?
Diana was the goddess of hunting, wilderness, wild animals, childbirth, young girls and the moon. She’s best known as the huntress – strong, fiercely independent, trekking through the wilderness armed with her silver bow and accompanied by her virginal companions. She herself was a sworn virgin who would violently defend her chastity (for example, poor old Actaeon happened to stumble upon Diana and her nymphs while they were bathing and Diana turned him into a stag as punishment, to be torn apart by his own hunting dogs). She was likewise quick to defend her mother Latona’s honour – in one instance she and her brother Apollo killed the fourteen children of Niobe, a mortal queen, because Niobe had had the hubris to claim that as she had borne more children than Latona she must be superior to the goddess. There’s heaps more information on Theoi, I’d recommend checking it out.
