Where does the “Old Spice” name come from?

The fragrances for both men and women were based on a spice jug Schultzs mother had in her home heavily scented with rose petals and clove. These jugs were used to deodorize the home, much like scented air fresheners today. In the Schultz household (the company was founded by Gordon Lightfoot Schultz) this was referred to as the old spice jug and, according to an interview with Schultzs son in the early 1990s, the name Old Spice came from the name of the jug and the fragrance it held.
