Where does the name Voci del Tesoro come from?
In many churches in Italy, just inside the door, is a sign that reads, “Tesoro,” or “Treasure.” The sign points the way to a place where the earthly treasures of the church are exhibited. There will be found vestments, paintings, statues, chalices, illuminated manuscripts, reliquaries, and other vessels of worship from ages past. No longer in everyday use, yet treasured, they enable one to glimpse the Eternal through the eyes of those who have gone before in faith. Voices of the Treasure symbolizes the sounds of the musical treasures, which do not exist in space, but rather in time, and can only be experienced when someone sings. Hildegard of Bingen wrote, “There is music of heaven in all things, and we have forgotten how to hear it until we sing.
