Where does the name “Hiberia” come from ?

The name Hiberia is the latin name for the Spanish penisula, a variant on the Greek “Iberus” or Roman “Iberia”. It shouldn’t be confused with another similarly pronounced country “Hibernia” (many people think the Hiberia is called the Hotel Hibernia !) as Hibernia is infact Ireland and is derived from the latin word ‘hibernus’ or ‘winter’ , as in to hibernate… the Romans found Ireland quite cold! Not so here at our hotel where we guarantee you a warm Roman welcome to all of our guests, especially those from Ireland!
