Where does the name “CyranoWrites” come from?
Good question! Cyrano is the main character in the play Cyrano de Bergerac written by Edmond Rostand in 1895. Cyrano is a courageous soldier, poet, and swordsman. He is also disfigured by a remarkably large nose. He passionately loves a beautiful woman named Roxanne, but never tells her. She, in turn, falls in love with the handsome young Christian, a recruit in Cyrano’s regiment, and she begs Cyrano to look after him. Christian is a decent fellow, but inarticulate and clumsy with words, and so, Cyrano writes love letters to Roxanne and pours his love into them, but (sigh!) he signs them with Christian’s name. Since we write love letters for you, we are like Cyrano de Bergerac, and so we chose a name that echoed that brilliant character. The simpler cyrano.com was not available.
