The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash-tests vehicles using a 35 mph full-width frontal barrier test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests vehicles using a 40 mph frontal offset crash. In Europe, the New Car Assessment Program (EuroNCAP) crashes vehicles using a 40 mph frontal offset barrier test, and a 30 mph side impact test. In Australia, the NRMA performs the same tests on native vehicles and in Japan the National Organization For Automotive Safety and Victim’s Aid (OSA) crash vehicles using a full frontal barrier test and a new side impact test.
