Where does the actual renewable energy that is purchaced with renewable energy credit (RECs) come from?

0

The Department of Public Utilities initially purchased REC’s from Public Service Company of New Mexico (aka PNM) when the LA GREEN program was launched in 2006. In 2007 and 2008 REC’s were purchased from Xcel Energy of Minnesota and Great River Energy (aka Split Rock Energy) also of Minnesota. These firms both generate renewable energy and purchase RECs from regional sources, including sources in New Mexico. The LA GREEN program then purchases RECs to enable LA GREEN members’ participation in the renewable energy economy helping to free us from dependence on fossil fuels.
