Where does tennis rank in terms of popularity in Australia right now?
PC: The Australian Open is absolutely massive, but tennis in itself is not that big a participation sport, just a sport people love to watch. It’s a pity – I think Tennis Australia have really slipped up, and kids are not playing tennis as much as they used to be. They had so many good champions to promote the game, but I think they’ve blown it now, they never did anything about it. But it’s been a little bit like that over here [in the UK] as well. I’ve done a bit with Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski over the years, but not much – but you’ve got a real champion in Murray now, so maybe it’s all set to change. Changes in the attitudes towards tennis are happening, but it’s the same situation as you’ve got in Australia – not enough kids are picking up tennis rackets, and that’s the most important thing. Until they take it into the schools and play it there, I think they’ll struggle, especially with kids kicking soccer balls around. th: Will you be back playing at Wimbledon this year? PC: Ye
