Rice is not planted to grow rice. It is “Paddy”. Buy paddy grains and sow them. If in small quantities you get them in many stores where you get the grains. Normal procedure of growing in large scale: Paddy is soaked in water for a day or two till it grows small roots. Then the grains are sprinkled densely in a well tilled and watered ground. After it grows into plants of about 3-4 inches it is pulled from the wet ground (since the ground is well tilled and watery wet the plant comes out with the whole root, un-disturbed). It is then planted in rows with a distance of about a feet or so. It is watered and the needed minerals/disinfectants are sprayed. The crop grows in full with the paddy grains; some-what similar to corn but each seed is separate and each plant will have plenty of such grains – well, that depends on the yeild actually. Then the dried crop is harvested (cut) and the grains are separated from the dry plant(now called hay – used for feeding cows, buffallows, etc..). Well
