Where does most staking take place?
Most staking takes place in areas of high mineral potential. The Precambrian Shield, found in Northern Ontario, is the source of most of Ontario’s minerals and metals. The vast majority of exploration and mining activity takes place in the North. In 2006, for example, of 66,926 new claim units recorded in Ontario, only 494 were located in southern Ontario. It is of note however that exploration for minerals such as gold, uranium, molybdenum, copper-nickel, wollastonite and calcium carbonate is on the increase in the more populated areas of Ontario’s south.
