Where does litter come from?
• Trashcans without tight fitting lids contribute to litter and attract unwanted animals. • Trucks hauling trash without a cover often litter our streets and highways. • Construction sites generate large amounts of debris that may become litter if not disposed of properly. • Businesses that do not keep their dumpsters closed create litter. • Careless pedestrians and motorists are also primary sources of litter. • After litter is generated, wind or water moves it around until it becomes trapped. • Once litter is present, people think it is all right to add more.
