Where does Grand Chief Superintendent of Works fit into the freemason heirarchy?
As I understand the Grand Chief Superintendant of Works is a Grand Lodge Officer responsible for the Grand Lodge Building and grounds. I believe that in most states this responsibility falls to the Grand Secretary and staff. As far as ‘rank’ goes, the Grand Master would be the primary officer over all of Freemasonry within the jurisdiction of his Grand Lodge – in the US, Grand Lodges are located in each state. That being said and as pointed out above, a Master Mason is the highest degree attainable by a Mason. The others ‘degrees’ as in the Scottish Rite are merely ‘numbered’ and having nothing to do with ‘rank’.
