Where does Cranberry come from?
The cranberry plant is closely related to the blueberry, and has been used for centuries by Native Americans in both healing and cooking. In early American medicine, the berries were crushed and used as poultices for treating wounds. Cranberries were also believed to assist in treating stomach ailments and liver problems. Today, cranberries are cultivated widely throughout the US and Canada. The name cranberry is derived from the word craneberry as the flowers of the shrub were thought to resemble the heads of the cranes that frequented the bogs where it grew.
