Where does BC stand on the complexity scale?
Battleship Captain is on the low end of the complexity scale. This does not mean that it is a simplistic design, but that it is not “process heavy”. BC is more concerned with the “effect” of battle than the “cause”. For instance, when damage occurs due to fire combat, the combat tables may tell you that flotation damage has occurred, resulting in a degrading of speed, without specifying how many incoming shells actually caused the damage, what internal bulkheads might have been ruptured, how many thousands of gallons of sea water poured into which watertight compartments, and so on. But you can “visualize” what is happening in BC, since ships have flotation ratings and specific critical hit damage may occur… the idea was to generate enough detail (and be true to history) so that players would know what was happening, but without additional charts and complex calculations that so often can bog down play and slow it to a crawl. If you are wanting a game that allows you to chart the eff
