Where do we stay while trekking in the Western Ghats (Sahyadris) and the Himalayas?
The Sahyadris offer enough destinations with considerably clean shelters to stay. These include caves, temples, village schools, forts etc. Many villagers can accommodate small groups and will also help with meals. Such unconventional accommodations are an experience to cherish for a long time. The availability of tents almost double your options of destinations. In the Himalayas, accommodation will vary depending upon the arrangements made by local governments or tourism departments for trekkers. In the East, parts of Garhwal and Himachal, it is possible to stay in log hut provided they are booked in advance. Else one may pay a small sum for the camping grounds if one wishes to stay in tents. Some destinations may even have guest houses or one may request some local to accommodate you. The assistance of a local guide can be very valuable in such cases.
