Where do the wiccan beliefs come from?

Wello, according to Donald Hutton, who wrote an excellent history of Wicca called “Triumph of the Moon”, the ideas common in Wicca come from Victorian Romanticism and mysticism. A lot of the ritual is inspired by Christian mysticism and magic, by way of the Golden Dawn and Freemasonry (casting the circle in particular). That’s the foundation, anyway. Gerald Gardner, the father of Wicca, added his own spin on things (the ritual nudity, for example). And then there are generations of Wiccans since then who have thought and wrote and dreamed and added to it.
