Where do the solutions of the differential equations come from?
I didn’t derive them: I selected them. Any function of the form will be a solution to the general wave equation. I wrote down two types of common solutions which have this form, the traveling wave and the standing wave. These two types of solutions have different properties appropriate to describe different situations.
