Where Do the Residencies Take Place?
Summer residencies are usually held in Dingle on the scenic west coast of Ireland. Students, faculty, and visiting Irish writers stay together in the beautiful 3 star Coastline Guesthouse which overlooks the harbor and mountains. Recent field trips have included a visit to the Blasket Island Centre and a boat trip to the spectacular Great Blasket Island, home to an extraordinary renaissance of writing in the 20th century. Free shuttle service to and from Dingle is provided for students from Shannon Airport for students arriving on the first day of the residency and departing on the last day. Winter residencies usually take place in Howth, a beautiful seaside town just north of Dublin. Participants are housed in The King Sitric, a 4 star guesthouse with a view that includes Howth’s pier, a lighthouse, and the striking island of Ireland’s Eye. Field trips have included visits to the James Joyce tower in Sandymount and the massive W.B. Yeats exhibition in the National Library of Ireland.
