Where do the origins of Synthpop lie?
There are a number of influential artists in this genre. Perhaps the earliest of these was french electronicist Jean Michel Jarre, one of the earliest musicians to do entirely electronic compositions. A strong melody usually was prominent in his more well known works. The electronic eurodisco of the 70’s helped to provide another jumping off point, a prime example is the Giorgio Moroder produced track “I Feel Love”, which was entirely revolutionary at the time. The german group Kraftwerk also started in the mid 70’s and were one of the pioneers of the synthpop genre. The whole personality of the group is robotic, their catchy pop melodies relying entirely on electronics, albeit most of their music was very experimental and beyond the ken of the mainstream at the time.
