Where do the episode title and production code come from?
Ancient Chinese secret. Seriously, the person at SNPP.com who posts titles for upcoming episodes doesn’t tell the others where he gets them from, so we can’t provide a good answer to this question for you. (Well, we can say that the episode titles for seasons five, six, and seven were submitted by Bill Oakley, an executive story editor (and later executive producer) for the Simpsons. Does that help?) Fox also provides episode titles for the next new episode on its official “Simpson” site at http://www.thesimpsons.com; this gives us the opportunity to make last-minute corrections. Production codes (those oddball little numbers, like 1F22) aren’t nearly as mysterious. They are a unique “serial number” for each episode. The code appears in the credits, on the screen with the copyright information. If you’re watching a show made after 1997 or so, get out your magnifying glass; Fox went to the split screen credit format that year, making the writing really tiny.
