The eggshells for Osspet come from Baumeister, a family-owned farm in Germany. This farm is a model of efficiency and sustainability. Baumeister has been supporting production of putamen ovi for over 40 years. Today, the farm has 70 employees and 120,000 chickens and processes 30,000 eggs per hour. Each day, 17 tons of eggs are cooked and peeled. Most of the eggs are sold to local grocers, restaurants, and food processors. Of the remaining 1.7 tons of eggshells, about 5% is used for production of putamen ovi. The rest of the leftover eggshells are used as fertilizer for Baumeister’s fields. In addition, the farm combines chicken waste with corn and ferments it – producing biofuel that’s used to power production. Excess fuel is sold to local utilities. The company also has an on-site windmill used for additional energy supply. Baumeister and the farms that supply eggs for processing feed all chickens a strict diet free of hormones, dioxins, and other harmful substances. What’s more, all
