Where do the corals on the Lotus come from?
All corals on the Lotus come from the Vabbinfaru reef, so no other reef has had corals removed to make Vabbinfaru look better. The corals, which have been transplanted on the Lotus, are fragments of live corals that have been severely damaged by waves or that broke off and fell over the edge of the reef, where they were gradually sliding down into deep water. These pieces would almost certainly have been doomed to die. Rocks and coral fragments usually roll over in heavy waves and are buried in the sand. Eventually, they die from lack of light or physical abrasion.
