During the winter, animals must find ways to stay warm. Many birds leave the cold northern states. They fly to places where the weather is warm. Some animals hibernate, or sleep all winter. Let’s see where a few animals go for the winter. To get ready for winter, bears eat a lot of food. They grow a warm layer of fat. Bears then look for dens in caves or brush piles. They sleep in their dens until spring. Squirrels build their nests in tree branches. They gather food and store it in their nests. They hide food in hollow trees.
