Where Do Termites Live?
Sometimes you will find termites dwelling around your house. You will see very noticeable signs, such as the remnants of feces, and other times you may not be able to see any trace of termites around your house. Pest management is always advised to consult when you see any sign of termite damage. These professionals are trained to deal with these critters and have the proper tools to do so. There are some ways to tell if termites could be causing damage to your house before it gets to be too late and there are also ways to tell where termites live so that you can check for their presence. Detecting the presence of termites is completely different from being able to locate their nest. To locate their nest, it would require lots of work and tracing. However, by knowing which types of areas that termites are commonly found living and nursing larvae, then you would be able to effectively eradicate these pests yourself or save expenses by paying someone else to do so.

Subterranian termites, the most common kind, live in the soil, from just below the surface to as much as 12 feet down. Up to two million termites inhabit the colony. These colonies consist of a network of tunnels and chambers built around a King and Queen whose sole job is to reproduce. In fact, many as 55 termite species, queens can lay up to 86,000 eggs a day.
it depends on what type of termite you are talking about. They not just eat wood, but cellulose…I have found them eating my turnips before… pretty much anything from or derived from a plant can give them a food source. Most of the US have subterranean termites which are located in the ground…some parts of the country have dry wood termites which are actually nesting in the wood itself, not needing to return to the soil. There are a couple of other species that even have different nesting sites than listed.
