Where do rocks come from?

0

Rocks come from deep within the earth. If you have seen pictures of the hawaiian volcanoes pouring out red hot molten material called lava, you are seeing the first phase of rock formation. the lava come from below the earths crust – the molten ‘Mantel’ layer of the earth to the outside through volcanoes, Then the rain, sun and wind break the lava down (a process called weathering) into rocks and finally to soil. Layer after layer of the lava is broken down till blobs of rock are segregated from the huge lava layers. Rocks are made up of granite, basalt or limestone.
