Since you are on the west coast you should go to your local bookstore and pick up a copy of All the Rain Promises and More… by David Aorora. If you can’t find it locally you can order it from amazon. This is a great book, specific to the Pacific North West, with color photographs and an excellent key to help you identify tons of species including the one you are looking for. Remember to learn the deadly mushrooms first so you can distinguish them from the tasty edibles. There are only a few that will actually kill you if ingested, the other dangerous ones will give you mild to severe gastrointestinal distress. And don’t eat anything based on what someone on YA! says. It helps if you have an experienced mushroom hunter with you to help you identify your finds.
