Filipinos make up the second largest Asian subgroup in the United States (behind Chinese, followed by Indians, Vietnamese, Koreans, and Japanese) with Tagalog being the fifth most-spoken language in the United States, with 1.3 million speakers. Unlike, other Asian Americans, such as the Chinese and Vietnamese, they have had a tendency to settle in a more dispersed fashion, living in communities across the country, many of them living in communities with a highly diverse population. The vast majority of them live in the suburbs. “Little Manilas” are civic and business districts tailored for the Filipino American community. As of 2008, one out of every four Filipinos make ther home in Southern California, numbering over 1 million. Greater Los Angeles is home to themost Filipino Americans, wth 370,000.
