Where do Marmosets Live?
Marmosets live in the rainforests of South America, specifically Brazil. They are found only in this area of the world, and in some villages in Brazil, they are even kept as pets. They live in patches of forest within a central Amazonia savanna. (Albernaz and Magnusson) What do Marmosets Prefer? Marmosets are small, arboreal primates, and they prefer the vegetation of the disturbed forest that has dense undergrowth and thick secondary growth. The primates spend a large portion of their time in trees, they are rarely seen on the ground. Therefore, the marmoset must do everything in the trees, including foraging. This explains why marmosets prefer the dense vegetation which provides a variety of foods to eat. The marmosets take advantage of the fruits of the trees as well as the sap or gum found inside the trees.
