This information is available by clicking on the data descriptions button above the Map Tools toolbar. This opens a window that lists all map layers. A brief description of the data is provided when a user clicks on the name of a layer. If a user wants to see further information, they may click on the full metadata button to view FGDC compliant metadata. The user can also get to this information by clicking on a layer name in the Data Layers list.
