Where do I find the serial number on a private aircraft?

The serial number of the aircraft is found on the “aircraft data plate” usually attached to the side of the aircraft usually on the fuselege near the tail.

If you are referring to the registration number, it’s located on the side of the plane near the tail fins on each side. This is also called the tail number. It’s the default position for the plane’s registration number. Now, if you were talking about the actual manufacturer serial number, just saying private aircraft does not give me enough of a hint to determine where it would be located. Aircraft manufacturers plant the serial number in quite a few different locations in the same way that car manufacturers do.
