Okay, after finally going deep enough in the mine, I think I can write a short guide to helping people survive in Sunny Island’s less than hospitable caves. Unlocking the Mine After Gannon moves onto the Island (Year 1, Spring 11th or 12th, “Mountain of a Man” event), you’ll be able to hire him to build bridges. Construct the bridge leading from East Town to Meadow (10,000 + 500 Lumber, or 35,000). After he finishes it, ask him to construct the bridge from West Town to Forest (20,000 + 500 Lumber, or 45,000). In short, this will cost you 80,000 G and worth of lumber. Once you can reach the forest, go through it to the north exit, which will lead you to the mountain. Head west until the path turns upwards. Follow the path, then head all the way east, and you will find the cave. The cave itself is not part of the mine. You can dig here, but there are no rocks.
